What is Extra Help? Does Extra Help Work with Medicare?

Extra Help is a program that helps low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay for their prescription drugs. It is also known as the Low-Income Subsidy (LIS).

Who is eligible for Extra Help?

To be eligible for Extra Help, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be enrolled in Medicare Part D.

  • Your income and resources must be below certain limits.

 

How do I apply for Extra Help?

You can apply for Extra Help online, by mail, or by phone. To apply online, visit the Social Security Administration (SSA) website and click on the "Apply for Extra Help" button. To apply by mail, download the SSA application form and mail it to the address on the form. To apply by phone, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

 

What are the benefits of Extra Help?

If you are eligible for Extra Help, you may be able to get help paying for your prescription drugs. Extra Help can help you pay for your medications at a reduced cost or even for free. How do I find out more about Extra Help?
